(NEW) November 2021 - Energy Efficiency

This month’s chart looks at the energy efficiency ratings in Oxfordshire and each district. The maps and charts for this bitesize were produced by the District Data Service using the current average EPC rating by Lower Layer Super Output Area (LSOA), which was calculated by Oxford Consultants for Social Inclusion (OCSI). These averages are based on domestic buildings’ EPC certificates issued between 2016 and 2020.

October 2021 - Long-term International Migration

This month’s bitesize explores Long-term international migration flows in Oxfordshire and the districts using data from the ONS (Office for National Statistics). The dataset used for this document includes figures from mid-2012 to mid-2020 time series to explore change of flows over time.

September 2021 - Co-op Community Wellbeing Index 

This month’s chart looks at the Co-op Community Wellbeing Index (CWI). The Community Wellbeing Index is an online tool created by Co-op in partnership with The Young Foundation and Geolytix. It contains a set of 9 domains measuring wellbeing through the use of data. Domains fall within 3 categories and these are: People (Education and Learning, Health, Economy, Work and Employment), Place (Culture, Heritage and Leisure, Transport, Mobility and Connectivity, Housing, Space and Environment), and Relationships (Relationships and Trust, Equality, Voice and Participation).

August 2021 - Total carbon footprint per capita

This month’s chart looks at the carbon footprint per person based on seven underlying sources of emissions data: Electricity, Gas, Other Heating, Car Driving, Van Driving, Flights, and Consumption of goods and services. This is particularly interesting given the current worldwide environmental crisis. This data has been obtained from the place-based carbon calculator produced with funding from UK Research and Innovation through the Centre for Research into Energy Demand Solutions.

July 2021 – Population estimates

This month’s chart looks at the change in population over time for each district by age segments: young (0-15), working age (16-64), and older (65+). The figures used in this bitesize were extracted from the ONS mid-year population estimates for the years 2010-2020 via Nomis. There is also an analysis on the change of the population in 2010 compared to 2020. For more information, please visit the ONS Population estimates webpage.

June 2021 – Employees at risk as a result of COVID-19 (by employee residence)

This month’s chart shows the proportion of employees that might be at risk or losing their jobs based on the furlough claims data supported by the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (CJRS) by HMRC. This dataset was published in May 2021 and it contains data on the number of claims submitted by employers up to 31st of March 2021.

May 2021 Youth Unemployment 

This month’s chart shows the proportion of people aged 18-24 years claiming Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) or Universal Credit (UC) as percentage of all 18-24 years old. Unemployment claims in the young segment of the population (18-24) have increased significantly over the last 12 months in Oxfordshire. In March 2021 the number of claims had increased by 3,255 (+254%) compared to March 2020.

April 2021:COVID-19 Job Retention Scheme

This month’s chart looks at the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme for the period of May 2020 to February 2021 and it looks at the breakdown of gender as a percentage of eligible employments and Industry type for each Oxfordshire district. The data for this bitesize comes from HMRC and has been reviewed by the Office for National Statistics. This dataset includes all claims made by employers up until 15 March 2021 for support for the wages of furloughed staff up to 28 February 2021.

The COVID-19 Vulnerability Index combines multiple sources of data in order to identify vulnerable MSOAs (Middle–layer Super Output areas) for all the Local Authorities in Oxfordshire. The indicators taken into account to produce these statistics are:

• Clinical Vulnerability (underlying health conditions).
• Demographic vulnerability (over-70s, people seeking asylum).
• Social vulnerability (barriers to housing and services, poor living environment, living in “left-behind” areas, loneliness, digital exclusion).
• Health Inequalities.

This month’s chart will explore the number of “Eat Out to Help Out” claims made by local authorities in Oxfordshire. The “Eat Out to Help Out” scheme aimed at incentivising customers by giving them a discount on premises where food is sold for immediate consumption. The scheme also incentivised food establishments on eligible days by bringing customers to dine during quieter times of the week. The scheme had also been used in conjunction with other financial supports such as the ‘Job Retention Scheme’ and ‘Self-Employed Income Support Scheme’.

The UK has officialy left the European Union and as of 30 September 2020, over 4 million (4,062,000) applications for settled status had been received, with 91% received in England, 5% in Scotland, 2% in Wales and 2% in Northern Ireland. The EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) enables resident EU, other EEA and Swiss citizens, and their family members, to obtain a UK immigration status.This bitesize will analyse the number of applications received in the districts of Oxfordshire as of 30th September 2020, age range of the applicants, and the outcome of their applications.

This month's second bitesize aims to identify hotspots of debt in LSOAs ( Lower Super Output Areas) within Oxfordshire by looking at the indicator on Personal debt for people aged 18+. This indicator includes the total amount of borrowing outstanding on customer accounts for unsecured personal loans divided by the population aged 18+ (ONS 2018). The map and the data has been collected from UK Finance and modelled by Local Insight from postcode sector to Output Areas. This dataset was produced using a weighted lookup built from the numbers of shared postcodes between a postcode sector and Output Area in combination with the working age population per Output Area.

November 2020: NINO Registrations

This month’s bitesize will analyse National Insurance Number (NINO) allocation to adult overseas nationals entering the UK and registered within Oxfordshire and the districts. These statistics are provided by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP).

October 2020: Self-employment Income Support Scheme

This month’s bitesize will look at the number of claims received for the second taxable grant as of 31st August 2020 for every district compared to the county, region and national averages. It uses the latest dataset publised by HMRC on 18th Semptember 2020.

September 2020: COVID-19 Statistics and Trends

This datapack has been produced by the District Data Service for the Oxfordshire Analysts Networking event and it includes statistics and trends on mortality, unemployment, furlough, government grants, property prices and air quality. The charts in this release have been put together using publicly available data from the ONS, NOMIS, HMRC, Transparency Data, Land Registry UK and Air Quality England.

August 2020: COVID Grants for Small and Medium Businesses

This month’s chart shows the total amount of funds that each local authority within Oxfordshire has received from central government to distribute to eligible SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) and it covers 2 coronavirus grant schemes: Small Business Grants Fund (SBGF) scheme and Retail, Hospitality and Leisure Business Grants Fund (RHLGF).

August 2020: Furloughed employments as a percentage of eligible workers in Oxfordshire

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme is a government arrangement to help employers whose operations have been severely affected by coronavirus to retain their employees by keeping them “on furlough”. The scheme aims at providing grants to cover at least 80% of the employees’ regular wages up to a monthly cap of £2,500.

July 2020: Private rent affordability during COVID-19

This chart of the month bitesize provides an overview of the rent affordability in Oxfordshire and the districts using datasets from both the PRS (Private Rental Statistics) and NOMIS (Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings). The data used in these charts is from 1st April 2019 to 31th March 2020 and it includes COVID-19 related figures.

June 2020: House prices during COVID-19

The latest datasets from Land registry UK show the average monthly house price for every property type in Oxfordshire and the districts between March 2019 and March 2020. The District Data service has used these datasets to analyse the behaviour of house prices from the first registered case of COVID-19 in January 2020 to march 2020 when lockdown began.
